Upload a properly formatted CSV file to create a new test with items. Supports all item types including multiple choice, rank order, fill-in-the-blank, and more.

Step 1: Download a Template

Choose a template that fits your needs:

Full Template: MC-Single, MC-Multiple, RankOrder, FillBlank, TextEntry, Likert, DragDrop, HotSpot
Reading Comprehension: Passage-based MC items where multiple questions share the same reading passage

Required Columns

  • ItemNumber - Sequential number (1, 2, 3...)
  • ItemType - One of: MC-Single, MC-Multiple, RankOrder, FillBlank, TextEntry, Likert, DragDrop, HotSpot
  • QuestionText - The question or prompt text

Multiple Choice Items

  • OptionA through OptionH - Answer options
  • CorrectAnswer - Letter(s) of correct answer(s). Use comma for multiple: A,C,E

Reading Comprehension / Passage-Based Items

  • StimulusText - The passage text. Only include on the first item of each passage; leave blank for subsequent items in the same section.
  • SectionNumber - Groups items by passage (e.g., 1, 2, 3). All items with the same section number share the same passage.
  • SectionTitle - Display name for the passage section (e.g., "The Water Cycle", "Photosynthesis").
  • Download the Reading Comprehension Template for a working example with 2 passages and 7 questions.

Special Item Types

  • RankOrder: Use RankItems column with pipe-separated values in correct order: First|Second|Third|Fourth
  • FillBlank: Use {{blank}} markers in QuestionText, with corresponding answers in FillBlankAnswers: answer1|answer2
  • TextEntry: Set TextResponseType (paragraph, short), TextScoringMethod (manual, keyword), and optionally TextKeywords
  • Likert: Set LikertScaleType to: agreement5, agreement7, frequency5, satisfaction5, importance5, or custom
  • DragDrop: Use DragZones for categories (e.g., Mammals|Reptiles|Birds) and DragItems for items with their correct zone (e.g., Dog:Mammals|Snake:Reptiles|Eagle:Birds)
  • HotSpot: Import creates the item shell; configure the clickable image regions in the Test Builder after import
